BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Overseas experts and scholars said the 11th BRICS summit in the Brazilian capital of Brasilia sends positive signals to promote multilateralism, boosts an open world economy, and provides positive energy for world peace.

SENDING POSITIVE SIGNALS TO PROMOTE MULTILATERALISM

Ivona Ladevac, head of the regional center "One Belt, One Road" of the institute of international politics and economics of Serbia, said Chinese President Xi Jinping's speech at the summit reaffirmed that China attaches importance to multilateralism.

Ladevac said Xi's speech highlighted three aspects of work for BRICS countries to undertake: creating a peaceful and stable security environment, pursuing open and innovative development prospects, and promoting cultural exchanges and mutual learning.

Oleg Timofeev, associate professor with the People's Friendship University of Russia, said BRICS countries in the declaration show support for multilateralism, and advocate a multipolar international order and position on some regional hotspot issues.

Andres Borquez, coordinator of program for Chinese studies of the institute of international studies at the University of Chile, said the BRICS summit declaration stresses adherence to multilateralism and the strengthening and reform of the multilateral system, which maintains the consistent discourse logic of the BRICS countries and shows that the BRICS countries will become responsible reformers and important players in global governance.

      BOOSTING AN OPEN WORLD ECONOMY

Sonia Bresley, a French writer and expert on China, said the BRICS summit declaration shows the BRICS countries are committed to the concept of openness, inclusiveness and sharing, and the member states will forge a prosperous future through economic growth.

Bresley said the BRICS countries pursue a pacifist economic development model, adhere to multilateralism, emphasize cooperation and sustainable development among sovereign states, and work together to build a peaceful, stable and prosperous world.

Jose Ricardo Luz Junior, CEO of Brazil's group of corporate leaders in China, said the declaration stresses opposition to unilateralism and protectionism, which is conducive to globalization and open markets, and is beneficial to all countries, especially developing countries.

Muhannad Shehadeh, former Jordanian minister of state for investment affairs, said he praised the declaration for safeguarding the interests of emerging markets and developing countries and for enhancing their participation in the global value chain.

Shehadeh said advanced science and technology could promote the upgrading of economic structure and create more job opportunities, which would be conducive to social stability in Arab countries.

Ebrahim Patel, minister of trade and industry of South Africa, said many of the contents of the declaration coincide with the policies of South Africa, adding that his country will implement the consensus reached at the summit and seize the opportunities brought by the BRICS cooperation to boost its economic growth.

PROVIDING POSITIVE ENERGY FOR WORLD PEACE

Bambang Suryono, an Indonesian scholar and president of the Jakarta-based think tank Nanyang ASEAN Foundation, said the BRICS countries, with dense population and large economic volumes, have huge development potential and continuously play a coordinating or even leading role in international affairs such as South-South cooperation and cooperation among developing countries.

Asif Noor, director of Pakistan's institute of peace and diplomatic studies, said Xi's speech shows that if any country wants to achieve a greater development, it must adhere to openness and innovation, and promote people-to-people exchanges.

Gan Tian Loo, a former Malacca commerce official in charge of business cooperation with China, said Xi's speech, in line with the needs of the international community and the era of globalization, advocates a global governance concept of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefit.

Gan said Xi's speech shows China's determination to move the international landscape toward open, inclusive and interconnected development, and the speech injects strong impetus into the progress of all mankind, indicating that China is a responsible country in international affairs.

Galina Petkevich, vice chairwoman of the Belarusian society for friendship and cultural ties with foreign countries, said she was impressed by Xi's speech about strengthening people-to-people exchanges.

Petkevich said non-governmental diplomacy helps enhance mutual understanding among people of all countries, contributing to regional and world peace and stability.
