UNITED NATIONS, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi on Friday announced the priorities that her country envisions as non-permanent member of the Security Council after it won a seat in the body.

"As non-permanent member of the council, we will give our work toward four main priorities," said Marsudi at a press encounter shortly after the election, noting peacekeeping, conflict prevention, sustainable development and fight against terrorism are top on the agenda.

In Friday's election, South Africa, Indonesia, the Dominican Republic, Belgium and Germany were elected to serve in the council for 2019-2020. Indonesia and the Maldives were contesting the one available seat for the Asia-Pacific Group, while the other four candidates ran unopposed.

Marsudi explained each of the priorities her country has in vision for its role at the security council.

"We will contribute in creating a global eco-system of peace and security by advancing peacekeeping and peacebuilding as well as women's enhanced role wherein," she said.

On conflict prevention, she stressed the need to promote engagement and synergies between the security council and regular organizations to achieve this goal.

The Indonesian diplomat also pledged to help build synergy between sustaining peace and sustainable development, particularly the goals of the 2030 agenda, by forging global partnership.

With regard to anti-terrorism, she said a global comprehensive approach was needed to address the root causes of terrorism and radicalism.

Marsudi expressed gratitude for the UN member states' support for Indonesia's candidacy, saying the result of the election was a statement of their confidence in her country's "commitment and capacity."

Indonesia received 144 votes in favor in Friday's election, beating competing Maldives which received 46 supporting votes.
