LUSAKA, June 23 (Xinhua) -- One Zambian soldier was killed and another injured during a peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic, a government official said on Monday.
Ministry of Defense Permanent Secretary Mambo Hamaundu said the soldier was killed last Friday when Zambian peacekeepers, part of the United Nations peacekeeping mission, came under fire.
He said the attack also left another Zambian soldier injured, adding that the soldier is currently in hospital receiving treatment.
"We are in touch with the United Nations and the two families to ensure that all processes are followed in the repatriation of the remains of the deceased soldier and the treatment of the wounded soldier," he said in a statement. ■
